In the first decade of the 1900s, Jonathan Ogden Armour acquired this expansive 1200-acre property, then called Mellody Farm, and planned the erection of the 29,000-square-foot Italianate mansion as a surprise for his wife, Lolita.

Under the direction of famous architect, Arthur Heun, the mansion took four years to complete. Swamp land was turned into lush woods and serene lakes, and fireplace mantles and library paneling were imported from Paris, Vienna, and London.

It is said that the marble staircase was built with Jonathan and Lolita’s daughter in mind. They hoped one day she would descend the curving stairway on her wedding day, which she did in 1921.

Are the ceremony and reception at the same location?

Yes, both the ceremony and reception will take place at The Armour House. There will be a cocktail hour between the ceremony and reception.

Is the ceremony outside or inside?

The ceremony will be outdoors, weather-permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place indoors at The Armour House.

Are kids invited?

We have chosen to limit our guest list to those ages sixteen and up. We hope you understand and can use this as an excuse for a parents' night out!

What COVID precautions will be in place?

We want to ensure a safe environment for all of our guests. We encourage everyone to take a COVID test prior to attending our wedding, especially if you are experiencing any symptoms.

What is the alcohol situation?

Full open bar, baby.

What is the dress code?

Formal or Black-Tie Optional.

Will there be a shuttle to and from The Armour House?

There will be a shuttle available to and from The Armour House if guests are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. The shuttle will operate for a limited window prior to the ceremony and for the majority of the reception.
